Redding Christian—Varsity Girls 33  U-Prep 21

The Redding Christian Lions Varsity Girls team played two nights back to back, a rare thing in high school basketball, except during tournaments, but it didn’t seem to faze them as they held off U-Prep 33-21 to finish their season with a 20-2 record awaiting playoff seeding this weekend.

The U-Prep Panthers are a division four team, and figured to provide a challenge for the Lions, but Redding Christian, on the strength of stifling defense jumped out 14-4 in the first quarter.  The Panthers were not going to go away quietly, though, and gained some of that deficit back in the second quarter, to cut the halftime lead to just 5.  Then another quarter highlighted by defense, where the Lions outscored the Panthers 10-2 built up the lead, and an even fourth quarter secured the victory.  Livi Lindsey scored 17 for the Lions along with five steals and six rebounds, while Sammie Wunner scored 9 inside to go with 4 rebounds, and four other players scored for Redding Christian.

Northern Section playoffs begin next week, and brackets will be announced on Saturday.
