Elaine Elsie Baugh was born on Dec. 14, 1933, to Wesley and Elsie Robinson Standfly in Redding. Elaine was the oldest of four girls; Lillian, Betty and Beverly.  Sister Lilian Wise from Redding is the only living sibling.  As a child and into her adult life, Elaine loved going to the movies and often recalled how her dad took her to the movies every Saturday at the old Redding  Theatre.  If she was good, as a reward dad would take her for a Damburger hamburger.

Elaine Standfly met William (Bill) Baugh while they were in seventh grade at the old Pacheco School in the Churn Creek Bottom area. Elaine lived a block from the school and Bill called her his “Bottom Girl”. Bill’s home was located up the hill off Rancho Road and she called him “Bill from the Hill.”

On May 16, 1952, the couple married in Reno Nevada and last May celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a large party with family and friends at the home of their daughter.

In 1956, the family moved into the house that Bill built on Freeman Way, Redding and have lived there ever since.  The couple have two children Karen and Danny.

Elaine was mostly devoted to her family but had many creative hobbies.  Some of her hobbies were collecting and fixing up antique dolls (Bill shared that one of her favorite pass times was going to antique stores.); and making quilts which she would earn many blue ribbons for her quilts at the Shasta District Fair. She learned how to quilt from a dear friend, Ruth Norton. Elaine also loved to paint (tole and oil painting) and was a member of the Magic Palettes. Elaine also received many fair ribbons for her paintings too.

Bill and Elaine’s favorite pastime was going to the movies and for many years attended the movies once or even twice weekly. The couple have been actively involved with the Palo Cedro Lions organization for 25 years and had attended and supported the Shasta County Talent Search every month for 29 years that originated at the downtown mall then later moving to the food court at the Mt. Shasta Mall.
