On Feb. 7, 2019, during the late afternoon, a Shasta County jury convicted Leonard Leon Lewis, Jr. of one count of felony 2nd-degree robbery, two counts of misdemeanor petty theft, and one count of misdemeanor vandalism.
On the evening of August 1, 2018, Lewis stole multiple items from a Shell Station in Redding. The very next day, August 2, 2018, Lewis stole items from the Texaco Station (formerly known as Jack’s Market) in Lakehead. When confronted by the owner, Lewis pushed her and fled the scene on a bicycle with the stolen items. Multiple people witnessed Lewis push the owner. Lewis was later confronted by an employee, where Lewis then vandalized the side mirror of the employee’s vehicle and continued to flee the scene with the items. Lewis’ sentencing is set for March 1, 2019. Lewis is facing up to five years in state prison.
The case was investigated by Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Ben Estill, Sean Smedley, and Ryan Kacalek. Deputy District Attorney Michael Chay prosecuted the case.
