Ciera Barry, 17, of Millville, won the “Youth High Point Award” at the Draft Horse Classic at the Nevada County Fair on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2011. This is the highest achievement for youth drivers at the draft horse show, and  Ciera has been trying to reach this goal for eight years.

She achieved it this year by placing first in Junior Showmanship and Gambler’s Choice with her Clydesdale Sweetie Pie. She also placed Second in Junior Team Driving, piloting a team of Beliqums owned by a friend, and Junior Cart.

During Junior Showmanship contestants have 30 minutes to get their horse ready to show.  They have to demonstrate to the judges that they know how to braid the mane and tail, brush the horse, clean her feet and be ready for the halter portion of the class.
