On Oct. 10, 2018, Junction Elementary School celebrated new sidewalks and crosswalks recently completed on Deschutes Road with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Shasta County Public Works was awarded Active Transportation Program funding to make improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists by adding sidewalks, bike lanes, and crosswalks with median islands and flashing beacons. The project was completed in time for the Walk to School Day and was celebrated by students and their families who live within walking distance of the school.
In above photo, Junction Elementary School Principal Mr. Martinez,(left, yellow vest), Supervisor Mary Rickert, Superintendent Rich Gifford, and Shasta Safe Routes to School Program Coordinator Sara Sundquist standby and watch students during the ribbon cutting to the new crosswalk project. Students in photo include: holding ribbon on left-Jaden McHatton, Athynna Potter (pink), Victor Diaz, David McHatton (center-cutting the ribbon), Joshua Potter, Jonah McHatton (right side ribbon); in back David-Hector Gomez, and Brody Tirado.
