District Attorney Stephanie A. Bridgett announced her office is holding its 4th Annual Senior
& Veteran Fraud Prevention Fair on March 5th, at the Redding Elks Lodge located at 250 Elk Drive Redding, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
This Fair is being held as part of National Consumer Protection Week (“NCPW”). NCPW is a national campaign that encourages consumers to take advantage of their consumer rights. This is the fourth year the District Attorney’s Office has held the Fair, and over the last three years, a combined total of approximately 1,000 individuals have attended the event.
This year, NCPW takes place from March 3rd through 9th and was formally recognized, by way of an official proclamation, by the Shasta County Board of Supervisors as well as the City Councils of Redding and Anderson. While the Fair has an emphasis for seniors and veterans, everyone is encouraged to attend since 12% of American adults fall victim to some type of fraud every year and all groups will certainly learn new information.
District Attorney Bridgett stated, “After the natural disasters our county has experienced, it is more important than ever to ensure our citizens are well informed about the variety of different types of fraud that they could be targeted by. I am proud that my office is putting on this event now for its fourth year, as it helps arm our citizens with valuable information on ways to avoid becoming a victim of fraud and steps to take should they become a victim.”
