The Women’s Fund of the Shasta Regional Community Foundation celebrated eight years of collective philanthropy on October 24, 2017, by awarding grants totaling $50,000 to three local non-profit organizations. The grant recipients were announced at The Women’s Fund’s Annual Membership Celebration, held at Old City Hall in downtown Redding. The focus area for the second year’s grant funding was Fostering Self Sufficiency, which was chosen as usual by members of The Women’s Fund’s during the semi-annual May voting cycle.
The grant winners for 2017 are:
- $10,000: Redding Fashion Alliance thru the Shasta County Arts Council – Fund the purchase of sewing equipment and courses to train domestic abuse survivors and provide opportunities for individual business creation and support.
- $10,000: Children First – Provide for basic personal and scholastic needs of high school girls who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
- $30,000: Shasta County Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council – Fund one full-time Parent Partner to provide intensive and walk-in Case Management services to prenatal mothers and mothers of children under the age of 17.
More than 100 people attended the Annual Membership Celebration of The Women’s Fund. In addition to learning the grant award winners for 2017, the audience also heard inspiring stories of lives changed by previous work supported by grants from The Women’s Fund of the Shasta Regional Community Foundation. One Safe Place shared a success story of a single mom who has benefited from their program. Promising Smiles shared photos and success stories of multiple women who were able to find employment due to their program.
“We reached our goal of $500,000 in our endowment fund, well before our original goal of 2019. This will allow us to begin increasing the grant awards with a portion of the investment earnings on the Fund. These are exciting times for The Women’s Fund,” said Erin Resner, Chair of The Women’s Fund. “It is a joy to celebrate and hear success stories of women and families who were able to benefit from the collective giving of The Women’s Fund Membership. As a group we truly have the ability to change lives.”
