On March 4, 2019, the Honorable Judge Beatty sentenced Katheryn Nickell, 51, of Redding, to state prison for a term of seven years. The defendant had pleaded no contest to assaulting two men with a firearm
On August 17, 2018, Nickell and her nephew trespassed onto the victims’ property in Millville with a truck pulling a trailer, cutting the locked gate, to steal contents of a mobile home. The property owners and a neighbor—Javier Alvarado, 24, Luis Alvarado, 50 and Reginald Ceehorne, 72 confronted Nickell and her nephew at the mobile home. Nickell got into her truck and tried to drive away. Nickell pointed a pistol at the victims — when they would not get out of her way and fired a round from the pistol in their direction. After the victims shot at Nickell, she got out of the truck and tried to escape on foot.
Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Nickell less than a mile from the victims’ property. The case was investigated by the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office and prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Craig Omura.
