On Tuesday, November 19th, 2019, at approximately 2:12 P.M., Redding Police Officers responded to the Redding Library at 1100 Parkview Avenue regarding a suspect who had pulled a knife on the library security guard.
Officers arrived and found 59 year old Gill Gideon Bond involved in an altercation with security guard Christopher Chaidez, and other individuals who had come to the aid of Chaidez. Officers pepper sprayed Bond and were able to take him into custody.
Investigation revealed that Bond had used a racial slur and threatened to kill an African American male adult who asked Bond to leave the library because he was openly consuming alcohol. Bond began causing a disturbance which drew the attention of Chaidez.
Chaidez asked Bond to leave because he was consuming alcohol on library grounds and causing a disturbance. Bond pulled a knife from his pocket, held it down at his side, and attempted to strike Chaidez with his free hand. Chaidez attempted to grab both of Bond’s arms to avoid being stabbed and a struggle ensued. Nearby Good Samaritans came to the aid of Chaidez but Bond attacked them too, punching those who came close to him and threatening to kill anyone near him.
Bond arrived in Redding from Florida in early November and has been arrested twice in the last two days.
Bond was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of brandishing a weapon, assault, criminal threats, resisting arrest, and a hate crime.
