On Friday, June 8, 2018, Redding Police Department (RPD) officers, using grant funding provided by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), conducted a minor decoy operation along with a shoulder tap operation in the City of Redding and Shasta Lake City from 6:00 p.m. to 10 p.m.  A shoulder tap operation is designed to discourage citizens from purchasing alcohol for individuals under the age of 21.  A minor tap operation is designed to encourage safe and appropriate sales of alcoholic beverages.

During the minor decoy operation, a total of 20 businesses were contacted by a minor attempting to purchase an alcoholic beverage.  Each business contacted refused to sell alcohol to the minor.  During the shoulder tap operation, Anthony Fernandez, age 28 of Sacramento, furnished beer to a minor.  Eddie Zeasley, 53 years of Redding, also furnished beer to a minor.

Citizens are urged not to purchase alcoholic beverages for individuals under the age of 21.
