On Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at 7:38 p.m. the Shasta County Sheriff Office responded to a silent robbery alarm call at the Riverland Market on Riverland Dr. The market is south of Knighton Rd. on Riverland Dr. which parallels Interstate 5 to the west.

It was found an actual robbery had taken place at the market. The store clerk and sole occupant of the store at the time described to deputies of a male who had entered the market, distracted the clerk, then physically overpowered him and demanded he open the cash register drawer. The clerk, fearing for his safety, did as requested and the suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register drawer. The suspect then exited the store and was last seen running northbound from the market along Riverland Dr. As the suspect exited the market, the clerk pushed the silent alarm button alerting law enforcement.

The store clerk told deputies the male suspect was wearing a clown type mask concealing his face, a dark bandana, a blue shirt, long pants and blue gloves. Video surveillance from the store was operating at the time of the robbery and depicts as what the clerk described. The clerk, understandably upset from the incident, was not injured during the occurrence.

Deputies, with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol helicopter, searched the area but did not locate a suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
