Redding Christian JV Boys’ team overcome slow start, pull away from Mercy

The JV Boys Basketball team started slowly, but pulled away from Mercy thanks to some outstanding rebounding and defense.  Josiah Van Denend had a monster game for the Lions, leading the team with 16 points and 18 rebounds.  He also got four of the teams 14 steals.  Taylor Brown scored 11 with six rebounds, Carson Piper scored six with three rebounds, five steals, and four assists, Trevor Dore tallied two points, three rebounds, four steals, and five assists, as all six Lions who played got both rebounds and points in the 41-32 victory.  Christian Reyes added four points and eight rebounds, and Sam Hall added two points and five rebounds.  The Lions JV team concludes their season against Burney this Thursday.  The game was moved up a day because of potential inclement weather.

Redding Christian Varsity Basketball Team defeats Mercy 80-37

The Lions clinched the 5-Star League Title with a decisive 80-37 victory over the Mercy Warriors Tuesday night.  The team held the Warriors to just 15 first-half points, en route to the 43 point victory.  The Lions were led by Austin Larson with 34 points and 14 rebounds, as well as 5 assists.  Drew Nelson-Crowell contributed another double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Ty Vickery added in 11 points, and Jaiden Piercy contributed six points and 9 rebounds.  The 7-0, 27-0 Lions will wrap up their regular season Thursday at Burney then await their playoff matchup, which will be announced Saturday.

Redding Christian Girls Basketball Team defeats Mercy 47-37

The Redding Christian girls team (7-0, 22-3) jumped out to a 20-2 first quarter lead on the Mercy Warriors and never looked back, winning the game 47-31.  Sadie Alexander led three Lions in double figures with 13 points and 3 rebounds.  Aleah Matos added 11 with 3 steals, and Sammie Wunner contributed 10 points with 3 blocks.  Courtney Jones only scored 3, but had 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and 7 steals while Kaylee Jones added 4 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals to go with 2 blocks, and Jackie Matos added 6 points and 4 steals.  The Lions play at Burney to decide the league championship Thursday night, then await playoff seeding on Saturday.
