On Aug. 28, 2017, the Martin Luther King Center will be hosting a Shasta MLK Dream Gathering in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m..  The MLK Center is located at 1815 Sheridan St. in Redding.

This free event will coincide with the national Ministers March for Justice on the 54th anniversary of his historic speech. The group will lift up local community organizations working in Shasta County to achieve equity in voting rights, criminal justice reform, healthcare, and economic justice. Participants will have the chance to share their ideas and commitment to building an inclusive, healthy community where every person is valued. Light refreshments will be served.

While this event was planned prior to the horrific violence by white nationalists in Charlottesville, VA, this shows the immediate need to directly confront the rise in racism and violent extremism in the United States and work towards achieving the goals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
