The first-ever Startup Weekend in Redding targeted at youth will be taking place September 22-24 at Grant School Gymnasium (8835 Swasey Dr., Redding, CA).  Unlike similar events that have been taken place at the EDC, participants will all be middle schoolers (5th – 8th grade).  Over a weekend, teams of middle schoolers from across the Redding area will listen to each other’s ideas, form teams, be coached by educators and industry pros, design a product, code/create a prototype, and pitch their companies in front of a panel of judges and audience members.

Mike Freeman, Grant School Superintendent, and event host, says “Grant School is all about engaging students in activities that will help to prepare them for the future and we are very excited to be the host for the Redding Startup Weekend Youth Edition event.  I cannot wait to see kids connecting with other kids and coaches.  I think that the ideas that these students come up with as they work through this process are going to blow people away!  We all know that kids today are capable of doing incredible things. An event like this will be the perfect way to not only showcase their talent, but also help them get a glimpse of the “real world” that they will be changing soon enough.”
