Cal Fire announces a fire, named the North Fire, started at 6:10 p.m. on July 15, 2017. At 6:30 p.m., Cal Fire, requested assistance from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol for residential evacuations and road closures due to a vegetation fire in the area of Canyon Road and China Gulch Road.

Initial road closures were set in place on Canyon Road at Highway 273, Canyon Road at China Gulch Road, Happy Valley Road at Canyon Road and Happy Valley Road at White Oak Avenue. Mandatory residential evacuations were set in place for all residents in the Amber Woods Subdivision and all residents on Hidden Ranch Road.

By 8:45 p.m. considerable progress was made on the fire and all evacuation orders were lifted. All road closures were removed at 10:45 p.m.. Residents and motorists entering, all previously closed and evacuated areas, are advised to use extra caution and care when traveling through these areas; as there are firefighters and fire equipment in the area still actively working on the fire. When possible, it is recommended all citizens try to use alternate routes to their destinations, to alleviate unnecessary congestion while fire personnel work to completely extinguish the fire.  

Currently, six acres have burned with forward progress stopped and at 50% contained.
