On July 9, 2017, at 5:56 p.m., officers from the Redding Police Department responded to an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a motorcycle in the area of Hartnell Avenue and Middleton Lane.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the driver and passenger of a Suzuki SV650 motorcycle were trapped underneath a Honda Civic sedan. The driver and passenger were freed with the assistance of the Redding Fire Department.

The driver of the Civic was identified as James Raymer, 52 years, of Redding. Raymer was not injured during the collision and was wearing his seat belt.

The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Mercy Medical Center with major injures. He was identified as Damon Bedore, 25 years, of Redding. Bedore was wearing his helmet at the time of the collision and was found to have a suspended driver’s license.

The female passenger of the motorcycle was transported to Mercy Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. She is not being named at this time because her identity has not been confirmed. She is a female adult believed to be 19 years old. The investigation revealed that she was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

At this time, it appears that the Honda Civic was westbound and made a left turn in the path of the oncoming eastbound motorcycle. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor for either driver. Hartnell Avenue was closed in both directions for several hours as officers investigated this incident. If any member of the public has additional information regarding this collision, please contact the Redding Police Department at 530-225-4200.

The unidentified female passenger has since died.  She was pronounced dead at 11:20 pm on July 9, 2017.

The Shasta County Coroner and the Redding Police Traffic Unit will attempt to positively identify the passenger and notify next of kin.
