On December 26, 2019, at approximately 0705 hours, Redding Police Officers responded to a call of a possible robbery in progress at the AMPM store located at the intersection of Lake Boulevard and Masonic Avenue. As Officers responded, they were advised the suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored Dodge SUV. An extensive check of the area was completed, but the suspect vehicle was not located. Officers learned the suspect brandished a pistol during the attempted robbery; however, the clerk did not hand over any cash prior to the suspect fleeing the store.
The suspect was described as a heavyset white male adult, approximately 6′ tall, wearing a
black beanie cap, black shirt, and blue jeans. Witnesses on scene were able to obtain a vehicle description including a license plate. Investigators from the Redding Police Department utilized a law enforcement database to notify other agencies of the suspect vehicle.
In the early morning hours of December 27, 2019, Officers from the Pittsburg Police Department (CA) located the suspect vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, Officers located evidence associated with the robbery suspect, including a loaded handgun. The suspect was not in the vehicle at the time. From that contact, however, RPD Investigators were able to positively identify Forrest Lee Hahlbeck, 23 years, of Martinez, CA., as the suspect. A felony arrest warrant was obtained for Hahlbeck for attempted robbery. His current whereabouts are unknown.
Hahlbeck should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information regarding this incident or the whereabouts of Hahlbeck are encouraged to contact the Redding Police Department.
